A semi-figurative mark, also known as a combined mark, is one of the types of figurative/logo trademarks. A semi-figurative trademark is comprised of two main elements - verbal and graphical. Of course, the mark can include multiple of those elements.
Examples of semi-figurative marks include globally known brands such as Shell - a yellow shell with red borders, accompanied by the text "Shell" in red lettering with a specific bold typeface. You might also know the combined mark of Unilever. The mark consists of a big blue letter U, comprised of different drawings and a stylized blue text "Unilever".
It is a common practice to register a semi-figurative mark in addition to a wordmark to extend the level of protection.
