We are looking to trademark our company in the EU. Is there a process of trademarking to cover all countries or do we need to do it separately?

To trademark your company in the EU, you can apply for an EU trademark (EUTM) through the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The EU trademark offers protection across all 27 member states of the EU with a single registration, making it a convenient and cost-effective option.

The process begins with filing an application with the EUIPO, specifying the mark you want to register and the goods or services it will cover. The EUIPO will examine your application to ensure it meets the requirements for registration, such as distinctiveness and absence of conflicts with existing trademarks. If your application is successful, it will be published in the EU Trademark Bulletin, allowing other parties to oppose your trademark within a specific period.

Following the publication, there is a three-month opposition period during which third parties can raise objections if they believe your trademark conflicts with their rights. If no opposition is filed or any opposition is overcome, your trademark will be registered, and you will receive a registration certificate.
